You must be a member of the Quail Valley Pool in order to register your
child to swim / practice with the team and every child swimming at the
practices MUST be a registered team member. This is due to Quail
Valley HOA liability.
Changes To The Mini
Marlins Program
Our Minis are the future of our team! Due to the overwhelming
number of swimmers in this program, it is now required that potential
swimmers try out. Chilren must be comfortable in shallow water
alone and be able to swim half the length of the pool (12.5 meters) non
stop. It will be the coaches' decision if the swimmer qualifies
to join the team.
Family Concession Stand
Support Fee
Instead of asking for donations before every home meet for items to be
sold at the concession stand, this year again asking family to
contribute a one-time $15 fee to e used by the team to purchase food
strictly for concession sales. (This fee does not apply toward
Friday potlucks, the waffle breakfast, or the team banquet, which are
team-only events that do not have food sales).
New
Team
Swimsuits
There will not be a new team suit this year. If you do need a
suit or any swim gear, it can be purchased at the Underwater wear store
located at 615 S. Frederick Ave. Lower Level B &
C, Gaithersburg, 301-527-8326.
Coaches
We're thrilled to welcome back Head Coach, Heather Holmes. As
you know, Heather is a very experienced swim coach who recently moved
to Gaithersburg from Ohio. She was head coach of a USA
Swimming age group (4 - 21) swim team for 7 years and held
numerous other coaching positions with both high school and swim club
teams. Heather also has a master's degree in Sport Science
and Coaching. We're also very pleased to welcome back our
Assistant Head Coach Katie Krauss, as well as newcomer Assistant
Coaches Frank Barrett and Zack Kovall.
QV Marlins Google Group
We'll be communicating mainly through a Google e-mail group (you do not
need a Google e-mail address to join). If you have not yet
joined, the address is qvmarlins@googlegroups.com.
It is very important that you join so that you don't miss out on any of the team events.
Volunteers
All team parents must volunteer in order for our meets to run
smoothly and for our team to have a fun, memorabe season. We'll
have signups at registration, so bring your calendars! Again this
year there will be SSL opportunities for MCPS students, including
assisting the Mini-Marlins and volunteering at mini-meets.
Restaurant
Nights
Fund-raising restaurant nights will be rescheduled for nearby
restaurants, with a percentage of sales going to the QV Marlins - dates
and locations to be announced.
Sponsorship
A letter outlining the benefits of being a team sponsor can be downloaded from -
Sponsorship is a great way to adventise your own business, or feel free to pass
the letter along to other potential sponsors. Contact Bonnie
Flandrau at bflandrau@msn.com
if you have any questions or suggestions regarding team sponsorship.

Officials
We are always in need of trained officials - stroke and turn judges,
referees and starters. If you've already been certified, please
check the MCSL website to see if you need to re-certify this year, or
you may want to consider becoming certified for an additional official
position.
